Professor Mojeed Kolawole Akinsola was born on 15th July 1955. He is therefore attaining the platinum age of 70 today, 15th July 2025, which also marks his formal retirement from the services of the University of Ibadan. He joined the University as a member of the Faculty in the legacy Department of Teacher Education in April 1997 and he rose through the ranks to the grade of Professor of Mathematics Education effective from 1st October 2010. As part of his value-added community service he has served our University in many capacities including Dean of the Faculty of Education from 2015 to 2017 and Pioneer Director, Directorate of Affiliated Institutions, from 2017 till 2022. After the unbundling of Teacher Education about eight years ago, he has been plying his trade in the new Department of Science and Technology Education. We cannot thank you enough for the willingness and readiness to always offer quality service whenever called upon to do so.
He was a Pioneer student of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta in 1976 and he completed his National Certificate of Education programme in 1979. His university education comprises B.Sc. (Ed.) Mathematics (Pure/Applied), Second Class Honours (Upper Division), from the University of Lagos, Lagos 1980-1985; M.Ed. Mathematics Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan 1986-1987 and Ph.D. Mathematics Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan,1987-1994. He was an Elected Member of University of Ibadan Senate 2003-2005; Member Governing Council Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, Osun State Nigeria 2004-2005; Member Governing Council Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, Osun State Nigeria. 2010-Sub-Dean, Postgraduate, Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan; August 2009-July 201Permanent member of Senate, University of Ibadan 2010 till Date.
Professor Akinsola has under his belt a very comprerhensive and rich experience as a teacher at practically every level of education from elementary to doctoral! This is a unique selling point to his credit. At the Primary School level, he was Teacher (Auxiliary) 1974-1975, while at the Secondary School level he taught Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics from 1980 till 1996. He equally taught at the Federal College of Education, (Special) Oyo. He was Vice – Principal, School of Science, Pade, Ibadan 1993-1995 and Principal, Community High School, Pade, Ibadan1995-1996. Earlier he was Head of Mathematics and Science Department St. Lukes College, Molete, Ibadan from1990-1992.
He is currently a Member of the Governing Council, Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan from March 2025 to date.
Outside the shores of this country he served as Editor, 2006 Conference Proceeding, Department of Primary Education, University of Botswana, Gaborone, Botswana 2006/2007 and as the Acting Head of Department, Department of Primary Education, , 2007/2008.
He earned the Templeton International Fellow on Gifted and Talent Development, University of Iowa, Iowa City USA in 2008.
He won the NYSC, Imo State Chairman’s Award in 1980; Member, Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN) 1980; Member, Science Teacher Association of Nigeria (STAN)1980 – Date (d) Member, European Science Education Research Association (E.S.E.R.A)1998-2000; Member, Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME) 2003-Date; Member, Botswana Education Research Association (BOSEWA) 2006-Date; Member African Research in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (ARMSTE), South Africa 2008-Date; Member Mathematics Affect (MAVI) Group (Europe) 2006-Date.
He is registered with the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) in 2011 with registration number OY/R00471.
He has successfully supervised 55 B.Ed., 20 P.G.D.E., 85 M.Ed. Projects, 2 MPhil. Dissertations, and 30 Ph.D Thesis in Nigeria and 29 B.Ed projects in Botswana. Currently he has 5 Phd students under his supervision. No less than five of his supervisees are now Professors while many more are Readers, Chief Lecturers and Senior Lecturers and it is fair to say that Professor Akinsola has made immense contributions to human capital development in Nigeria, Botswana and other parts of the world.
He has 90 publications to his credit comprising Articles in Peer-reviewed Journals, Books, Chapters in Books, and Articles in Refereed Proceedings.
He has presented 30 conference papers and 5 keynote addresses in higher institutions in Nigeria, Austria, Australia, Botswana, Germany, Italy, Sweden, USA, Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates.
His current research interests include Students Perception of Mathematics Teachers’ Teaching Personality and Mathematics Teachers Attitudes towards Instructional Strategies and Teacher Efficacy.
Professor Akinsola can best be described as a jolly good fellow. Hundreds of us in the University of Ibadan community and beyond are very proud to call him our friend and confidant. He is an amiable person who does not bear grudges.
He is a member of the Senior Staff Club of the University of Ibadan where he holds the honorary title of Baale of Oju-Odo Kingdom. We join your wife, children, grandchildren and the entire member of your extended family from Akinyele to wish you a happy retirement.
