SKOT Communications has launched the SKOT Impact Academy, a social impact initiative designed to equip early-career professionals with the skills necessary to thrive in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving communications industry.
The launch, which took place at the company’s head offic on Victoria Island, Lagos, was a gathering of Public Communications leaders across different sectors.
The SKOT Impact Academy provides a six-week, hands-on programme tailored for young professionals with 1–2 years of experience. It is a platform to nurture talent and transform it into industry-ready expertise. Participants will gain world-class tools, practical knowledge, and storytelling mastery to help them shape narratives, strengthen brands, and inspire change.
Speaking on the vision behind the academy, Tokunboh George-Taylor, Founder and CEO of SKOT Communications, “Like many of you, I’ve spent years in this sector, and I’ve been reflecting on how I can make a lasting contribution to the industry that shaped me. I’ve always believed that communications is more than just a job; it’s a powerful force for change. That belief has led to a deep-seated desire to give back.”
Commenting on the Academy, she said,“The SKOT Impact Academy is a tuition-free, 6-week program designed for early-career professionals who want to grow with purpose and make an impact. Our vision for this academy is to be the leading PR hub, shaping professionals into powerful global storytellers, empowering these individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to drive their careers and reshape the communications landscape for years to come.”
Looking ahead, the communications Amazon said, “This initiative is an investment in the future of our sector, and it would not be possible without the support of partners and leaders who support us. Beyond the Impact Academy, we are also launching SKOT Masterclasses to continue supporting professionals at every stage of their career journey and SKOT Elevate to enhance your organisation’s communications visibility. Together, we can build a more dynamic, purposeful, and impactful communications industry.”
The company has not officially unveiled the facilitators yet, but she said, “I can tell you that it consists of industry experts and also international experts from our PROI network who have bought into our vision and will take time out of their Saturdays to take the students through some key focus areas. It’s something we are also excited about.”
Speaking to some of the lucky students who were admitted, Kalu Mercy, who is currently working as a Brand Strategist and operations leader, said she is excited to be a part of the selected few.
Speaking about her experience so far, she said, “One thing that l has enjoyed the most is the details and the intentionality towards starting the course. We’ve not started yet, but what I’ve seen so far in the course outline, the packages, and the lineup of people that will train us is mind-blowing. The detailed outline ensures that the course covers every aspect of communication.
“So it really excites me to see that this much attention is being paid to the details. And I’m really looking forward to the next six to eight weeks of my stay here and probably more. I heard today that we had over 400 applicants, so I don’t know how many people got in, but I’m grateful that l am one of the participants for the academy.”
She said the lectures will commence this Saturday.
Expressing his gratitude to Tokunbo George-Taylor and SKOT Communications, Hassan Olanrewaju, who is currently working in a bank, said he joined the academy to pursue his first love, which is Public relations and communications.
Hassan, who studied Mass Communication from Kwara State University and was not able to practice it, did not waste time registering for the academy when he saw the opportunity on the LinkedIn page of the company and decided to apply for it.
He said the process of entering the academy was seamless. “Basically, l clicked on the link, filled in all my information, and registered. Then got an acceptance email. The academy is free, and I’m looking forward to learning and pursuing a career in communications.
