The Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB), has certified a new batch of entrepreneurs following the successful completion of a six-week intensive practical training programme in various vocational skills.
According to a statement signed by Mrs. Oyekemi Omowumi Wilson, Head of the College’s Public Relations Unit, the certificate award ceremony marked the conclusion of the first edition of the College’s Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) training initiative.
The programme featured hands-on training in four skill areas,  barbing, hairdressing, phone repairs, and make-up artistry — with a total of eight participants successfully completing the course. Two trainees qualified in barbing, two in phone repair, three in hairdressing, and one in make-up artistry.
Representing the Provost, Prof. J.J. Atungwu, at the ceremony, the Deputy Provost (Administration), Engr. Dr. Adejumo congratulated the participants for their diligence and commitment throughout the training. He commended them for being “worthy in both character and learning,” and reminded them that the College’s certificate carries significant value capable of unlocking new business opportunities.
“No knowledge is ever wasted. As you go out to start your businesses, uphold integrity and good conduct wherever you find yourselves”,  Dr. Adejumo said.
In her welcome address, the Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Dr. (Mrs.) Modupe Sodamola expressed appreciation to the participants for their perseverance and active participation during the six-week exercise. She praised their initiative in providing their own start-up kits, noting that their self-reliance was proof of readiness for life after training.
“This marks a milestone for the College.Your decision to invest in yourselves shows that you are ready to make a difference. You are the pioneers of a programme that will continue to grow and empower many others,” she said.
Dr. Sodamola commended the College Management for keeping the training affordable, with participants paying only a token and applauding the instructors for their “assiduous efforts” in delivering practical, impactful knowledge. She also encouraged trainees to seek further mentorship to refine their skills.
The newly certified participants expressed gratitude to the College for providing the platform to gain life-changing skills, while the instructors called on the management to sustain and expand the entrepreneurship initiative, describing it as a tool for youth empowerment, community development, and poverty reduction.
The event, which combined celebration with reflection, reaffirmed FCAIB’s longstanding commitment to empowering individuals beyond agriculture, fostering creativity, and promoting self-reliance.
“The Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan,  the first, the best,” the statement  added.
