The Vice-Chairman of Egbeda Local Government Area and Head of Political Administration, Ajorosun Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ibrahim Oladeebo Simple, has urged pupils in public primary schools to embrace diligence, discipline and good morals as pathways to a successful future.
He made the call on Thursday at the Catch Them Young Initiative Campaign held at Brendan Primary School, Kumopayi, Olodo, Ibadan, where he returned to his alma mater after more than three decades to motivate pupils.
Expressing deep emotion and excitement, Oladeebo said his visit symbolised hope and possibility for children in government schools across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State.
“I was once in your position. I sat where you are sitting today. Through focus, resilience and dedication, God has helped me to rise. You too can become great if you take your studies seriously,” he told the pupils.
The grassroots politician described quality education as the foundation of societal development, noting that it had played a critical role in shaping his personal and political journey.
Recalling his days at Brendan Primary School as a member of the school band and its first health prefect, Oladeebo said early exposure to leadership and discipline had helped to mould his character.
According to him, returning to the school after many years was a testimony that determination and sound education could lift children from humble beginnings to positions of influence.
“My coming here is to motivate you and to remind you of the importance of good morals, dedication and focus. I believe many of you will become respected leaders, technologists, entrepreneurs, musicians and politicians in Nigeria and beyond,” he said.
Oladeebo also assured residents of Egbeda of sustained democratic dividends, calling for greater cooperation with the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, which he said had strengthened key sectors such as education, health, security and the economy.
He urged stakeholders to continue supporting government policies aimed at improving learning outcomes and youth development across the state.
Earlier, the Coordinator of Catch Them Young Initiative and Bright Lens Media Networks, Mrs. Ayodeni Aluko, appealed to parents and teachers to nurture the talents of pupils through positive mentoring, skills development and character building.
She stressed that early guidance remained vital to building responsible and productive citizens.
The event attracted education stakeholders, community leaders and union officials, including the Chairman of the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Egbeda Chapter, Mr. Oyetunde Oyerinde.
Highlights of the programme included the inauguration of Health, Environment, Press, Security and JETS clubs to promote leadership, creativity and civic responsibility among pupils.
