A governorship aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Barrister Niyi Aborisade (BANA), has described the party as a truly democratic platform that guarantees equal opportunity for all aspirants, regardless of status or financial strength.
Aborisade, popularly known as BANA, stated that the ADC distinguishes itself from other political parties through its commitment to internal democracy and transparency, stressing that candidates emerge through due process rather than imposition.
Speaking at a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting of the party in the Oyo Central Senatorial District, held at the Amuludun 9.1 FM Federal Radio Station ground, Moniya, Ibadan, the aspirant said the ADC remains committed to fairness and inclusiveness.
“The difference is very clear. ADC is a truly democratic party. It provides a level playing field for everyone. No matter who you are, whether rich or poor, famous or unknown, you are given equal opportunity to present what you have to offer the people,” he said.
According to him, politics within the party is not driven by money or political influence, but by credibility and the capacity to serve the people.
“It is not about money or power. The party does not impose candidates. What matters is what you have to offer the people of Oyo State,” Aborisade added.
Reacting to speculations over the possible defection of a sitting governor from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ADC, Aborisade noted that while every Nigerian has the right to associate freely, such a move would be guided strictly by the party’s constitution.
“He has the right to do that if he wants. But ADC is not a party anyone can come and control or exploit the way things are done elsewhere. If he comes, he is welcome, but the rules must apply equally,” he said.
On the party’s prospects ahead of the next election cycle, the governorship hopeful expressed confidence that the ADC is well positioned to make significant political inroads in the state.
“Our chances are very bright. You can see the mood of the people. They want change, genuine change. ADC represents positive change, and that is our strength,” he declared.
The Moniya meeting, which was presided over by the state chairman, Yinka Olona, attracted party leaders and stakeholders from across the Oyo Central Senatorial District. All chairmen of the local government areas in the zone were in attendance.
Aborisade said the large turnout and orderly conduct of the meeting were indications of the party’s steady growth and acceptance among the people.
“The place was filled with people. It shows the progress of ADC in Oyo State and the readiness of our members to work for victory,” he said.
He restated his commitment to running an issue-based campaign anchored on good governance, accountability, and people-oriented policies.
