ACU VC expresses optimism over NUC approval for new programmes

The Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo Town, Prof. Timothy Abiodun Adebayo, has expressed confidence that the National Universities Commission (NUC) will grant timely approval for the institution to commence new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The programmes include Guidance and Counselling, Philosophy of Education, Cyber Security, and Data Sciences. The optimism followed favourable remarks made by NUC Resource Assessment teams, which visited the university on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Prof. Adebayo, represented at the event by his deputy, Prof. Muyiwa Popoola, reiterated the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, staff and student welfare, and infrastructural development.

He said:“I will like to reaffirm the commitment of this University to the vision and mission of our founding fathers, which revolve around academic excellence, staff and students’ welfare, and infrastructural development. At ACU, our curriculum is designed to prepare our students to compete globally, equipped with technical skills acquired from our Centre for Entrepreneurship.”

The Vice-Chancellor added that the university would not relent in its drive to secure approval for more undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, stressing that staff welfare remains a central pillar of ACU’s mission.

According to him, education thrives best in an environment where infrastructure supports learning. He assured the visiting NUC teams of the university’s readiness to sustain high academic standards, research, and innovations.

Dignitaries present at the event included the University Bursar, Dr. Ayodele Olusanwo; University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Bosede Ajiboye; Dean of Postgraduate School and Chairman, Committee of Deans, Prof. Paul Akanbi; Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Bolanle Ibojo; Prof. Ayobami Ayeni of the Computer Science Department; Acting Head of Computer Science, Dr. Femi Ojo; Acting ICT Director, Dr. Mayowa Oyediran; Director, Institute of Education, Prof. Michael Olatunji; Dr. Sunday Olawale of the Guidance and Counselling programme; and Academic Planning Officer, Mr. Tayo Adeniji.

Prof. Adebayo concluded that the institution was optimistic of NUC’s express and favourable approval to commence the new programmes, following the encouraging feedback from the assessors.
