Adeosun to deliver OYSCATECH’s second inaugural lecture

The Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora, is set to host its second Inaugural Lecture, with Dr. Olubunmi Adeosun, Director of Academic Planning and former Dean, Faculty of Animal and Fisheries Technology, billed to deliver the highly anticipated academic discourse.

The lecture, titled “From Harvest to Plate: The Journey of the Pearls of the Waters,” will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2025, at 12:00 noon, at the institution’s main campus in Igboora. It is expected to attract a broad spectrum of academics, professionals, and members of the public, offering insights from decades of research and field experience in fisheries and food technology.

According to the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Olawore H. Opeyemi, the event will be chaired by the Rector, Professor Akinola Akinlabi, and will feature the presence of other principal officers of the college, including the Registrar, Mr. R.F.A. Adeniji.

The Dean of the Faculty of Animal and Fisheries Technology, Dr. Mosobalaje Mutiu, extended an open invitation to members of the public, noting that the lecture provides a unique opportunity to engage with the scholarly work of one of the college’s most accomplished academics.

Dr. Olubunmi Adeosun, a renowned academic and administrator, was born on April 8, 1967. Her academic journey began at Methodist Primary School I, Bodija, Ibadan, followed by secondary education at Seventh Day Secondary Modern School, Erunmu, and Mount Olivet Grammar School, where she earned her West African School Certificate in 1985.

She went on to obtain a National Diploma in Food Science and Technology from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, emerging as the best graduating student in 1988. Adeosun holds a B.Sc. in Food Technology, a Master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in Fisheries Management, all from the University of Ibadan.

A lifelong learner, she has also earned multiple certifications in digital marketing, food safety, flexible skills development, and open educational resources from institutions including Google Digital Garage, Alison, and the Commonwealth of Learning (COL).

Dr. Adeosun’s career spans both the private sector and academia. She began as a Production Officer with Universal Associate Company Limited, a subsidiary of Intercontinental Fishing Company, Apapa, Lagos, between 1996 and 1999. She later worked at the Security Unit of the University of Ibadan from 2004 to 2009 before joining OYSCATECH as a Lecturer II in the Department of Fisheries Technology.

She has since risen through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer and has served in numerous key administrative roles including:Dean, Faculty of Animal and Fisheries Technology; Director, Vocational Skills and Entrepreneurship Study Centre; Deputy Director (Academic), Directorate of Part-Time Programmes and Preliminary Studies; Chairman, Staff Disciplinary CommitteeChairman, Taskforce Committee Against Students’ Immoral Behaviours, and Chairman, LOC, 2021 Biennial Conference.

A prolific researcher, Dr. Adeosun has published over 40 scholarly articles in both local and international journals and has supervised 38 National Diploma and Higher National Diploma students.

Dr. Adeosun is an active member of several professional and faith-based organisations, including: Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), Association of Nigeria Fisheries Scientists (ANIFS); Fellow, Chartered Institute of Commerce of Nigeria, and Chairperson, Young Women Christian Association (YWCA), Nigeria Branch

Dr. Adeosun’s life and career reflect a commitment to excellence, service, and the advancement of agricultural and fisheries education in Nigeria. Her inaugural lecture promises to be a compelling narrative of research, innovation, and the journey of aquatic resources from source to sustenance.

She is married to Mr. Ezekiel Oluwadamilola Adeosun, JP, and their union is blessed with children.

The college community and stakeholders in agriculture, food technology, and fisheries are encouraged to attend the lecture and share in the intellectual harvest that Dr. Adeosun has cultivated over the years.
