The Methodist Church Nigeria, Agodi Diocese, has announced plans for its 20th Synod, scheduled to hold from April 16 to April 19, 2026, in Ibadan.

The four-day event will take place at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Igbo-Elerin Circuit, and is expected to bring together clergy and lay delegates from across the Diocese for worship, deliberations, strategic planning, and thanksgiving.

The Synod will be convened under the leadership of the Bishop of Agodi Diocese, Simeon O. Onaleke, and is themed “I Will Fight for You,” drawn from Exodus 14:14.

According to a statement signed by the Diocesan Media Adviser, Chief Yomi Davies, the theme underscores renewed faith, resilience, and trust in God in the face of contemporary challenges.

Activities lined up for the Synod include the arrival and registration of delegates, an opening Eucharistic service, and separate ministerial and lay sessions on April 16. The official opening ceremony and the Bishop’s Address—considered the high point of the Synod—will take place on April 17, alongside addresses by the Prelate and Lay President, followed by plenary discussions.

The reading of the Synod communiqué and appreciation to the host circuit are scheduled for April 18, while the event will conclude with a thanksgiving service on April 19 at Methodist Church, Age.

The Diocese also called on delegates, churches, circuits, and societies to support its 2026 development agenda, which includes the establishment of a palm tree plantation and a table water factory. The projects, according to the organisers, are aimed at enhancing economic sustainability and expanding the Church’s impact within the community.
