The Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has applauded the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Adebayo, describing him as an exceptional administrator whose visionary leadership over the past five years has elevated the institution despite Nigeria’s challenging economic climate.
Prof. Adebayo’s tenure, which began in 2020, will formally come to an end this month. At a ceremony held after the Council’s meeting on Wednesday, the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the University, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo, unveiled Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole as the new Vice-Chancellor, making history as ACU’s first female helmswoman.
Dr. Okeowo said reports from the University’s external auditors confirmed “tremendous growth” during Adebayo’s administration, noting that this success came at a time of widespread economic difficulty.
“Between 2020 and now, this University has witnessed tremendous growth under Prof. Adebayo. It is important to note that this growth was recorded at a time when the country’s economic indicators showed great strain. Many institutions would not have survived without disciplined and creative leadership. But Prof. Adebayo ensured steady, yearly growth for this University, and for this we are most grateful,” Okeowo remarked.
The Pro-Chancellor, speaking on behalf of Anglicans in the Supra West, also appreciated the dedication of ACU’s management, principal officers, and staff, acknowledging their roles in sustaining the University’s progress.
“Prof. Adebayo’s achievements were possible because of teamwork. A tree does not make a forest, and he has had a dedicated team of officers and staff who contributed immensely to his success. On behalf of the Supra West, I say thank you to you all,” he added.
Okeowo reaffirmed the Governing Council’s vision to position ACU among the world’s top 1,000 universities, urging staff to sustain their commitment to excellence.
Turning to the incoming Vice-Chancellor, Okeowo called for unity and cooperation in ensuring her success.
“Today, we also welcome Prof. Mrs. Ebunoluwa Oduwole as the incoming Vice-Chancellor. She is making history as the first female Vice-Chancellor of this University. I urge every member of staff to give her full cooperation and support, backed by your prayers, so she can excel in every way,” he said.
Also paying tribute to Prof. Adebayo, the Archbishop of Ibadan Province and member of the Governing Council, Most Rev. Williams Aladekugbe, said the outgoing VC’s appointment five years ago had proven to be divine.
“The choice of Adebayo was not a mistake but a blessing. Under his watch, the University has recorded remarkable achievements in academics and infrastructure. Even during the storm of last year, God calmed the waters, and today we have cause to give Him thanks and praises,” Archbishop Aladekugbe said.
