A former governorship aspirant and prominent political figure in Oyo State, Hon. Bolanle Amina Sarumi Aliyu (BASA), has formally declared her return to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), describing the move as a strategic decision aimed at strengthening democratic governance and repositioning the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sarumi Aliyu, in an official declaration made available to journalists on Saturday, said her decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters across Oyo State, and members of the diaspora.
The former aide to Governor Seyi Makinde described the move as both a political realignment and a “homecoming,” saying the PDP remains a formidable platform for service, unity, and inclusive development.
“Today, I stand before you with a deep sense of responsibility, clarity of purpose, and unwavering commitment to the progress of our people,” she said.
“After wide consultations with my political associates, supporters across Oyo State, Nigeria and in the diaspora, and after careful reflection on the current political landscape, I have taken a decisive step in the interest of service, unity, and the future of our dear state.
“I hereby formally announce my decision to join the Peoples’ Democratic Party.”
The former aspirant said the PDP offers a tested structure, national spread, and political experience necessary for delivering meaningful governance.
According to her, the opposition party has demonstrated resilience and repositioned itself as a credible platform for democratic growth and good governance.
“The PDP represents a platform where experience, structure, and national spread converge to deliver meaningful governance. It is also a platform to which I have devoted significant years of service in the past, and where I believe my contributions can once again make a difference,” she stated.
Sarumi Aliyu commended the efforts of key national leaders of the party, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for what she described as his unwavering commitment to keeping the PDP strong and united.
She also acknowledged the roles of the party’s National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, in sustaining the party’s stability.
In Oyo State, she expressed appreciation to former Deputy Governor, Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, whom she described as her political leader, for providing leadership that made it possible for former members to return to the fold.
“In a very special way, I thank my leader in Oyo State, His Excellency Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, for holding forth and for ensuring that I, alongside millions of others in Oyo State and across the nation who once left the PDP, can now confidently return home to a party that is united, stable, and formidable,” she said.
She added that her renewed commitment to the party would focus on grassroots empowerment, youth development, and women inclusion.
“My focus remains clear: to serve the people of Oyo State diligently, to empower our communities, to uplift our youth and women, and to be part of a collective effort that delivers real progress and lasting impact,” she said.
