The Ibadan Circular Road Corridor Residents have called on the Oyo State Government to adhere strictly to the original 75-metre acquisition framework established in 2006.
The call was made on Thursday as hundreds of affected residents staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan, displaying placards with various inscriptions to express their deep concerns regarding the ongoing developments and the potential displacement of their communities.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Secretary of the affected residents, Olajide Abass, urged the government to respect the original acquisition framework of 75 metres on both sides, as established and gazetted during the administration of Rashidi Ladoja in 2006.
The residents who expressed their support for the infrastructural strides of the present administration under Governor Seyi Makinde, emphasized the need for a people-centered approach that honors historical legal boundaries to prevent further hardship.
The group’s key demands include the immediate payment of compensation to all affected property owners and the total exclusion of existing communities lying beyond the gazetted 75-metre boundary from any further acquisition.
