Dons urge govts to adopt preventive education strategies to fight pandemics, diseases

Scholars and researchers from the University of Ibadan [UI], University of Port Harcourt and Bayero University, Kano [BUK] have called on governments to adopt preventive education strategies to fight diseases and pandemics such as HIV/AIDS, COVID-19 and others.

The scholars and researchers stated this during  the dissemination of  their research  findings of a Tertiary Education Trust Fund [TETFund] National Research Project.
The presentation was held at the Faculty of Education, UI, Ibadan, Oyo State, with  the theme: “Preventive Education Strategies as Vaccine to COVID-19 Prevalence and Related Diseases”. 
Prof. Rashid Aderinoye is the Principal Investigator while Prof. Omobola Adelore is the Co-Investigator of the project, and Dr Solomon Ojedeji presented the reports, findings, and recommendations to the audience.
Part of the research recommendations  read: ‘’Public health campaigns should focus on reinforcing the preventive strategies that respondents are familiar.
‘’Communication strategies should leverage the preferred media channels identified by respondents, including radio, television, newspapers, and social media platforms.
‘’Sensitisation programmes within schools be strengthened to enhance awareness and promote a culture of preventive health practices among students         
‘’Before, during and after any past, current or future pandemic, preventive educative education has proven to be the most effective in the fight against such.
‘’So, it was for HIV/AIDS, So, it is for COVID-19; So will it be for related diseases or future pandemics’’.
Speaking during the presentation, Prof. Aderinoye urged the government to use the appropriate channels  of communication to disseminate health and education information to the populace in order to achieve the desired objectives.
On his part, Dr Ladan Babangida  from BUK said preventive education would be a better remedy.
Research team members from UI are Prof. Rashid Aderinoye, Prof. Oyeduni Arulogun, Prof. Omobola Adelore, Dr Tolulope Gbadamosi, Dr Abiola Omokhabi, Dr Solomon Ojedeji, Dr Rukayat Ogundipe, Dr Rosheedat  Adeniji, Dr U.C. Osu, and A.A. Adebayo. From Uniport are Prof. Morufu Oyebamiji  and Dr Joy Ezeala. The BUK team comprises Dr L. Babangida and Dr Auwalu Halilu
In a remark, Mr Tunde Ogundipe of the National Orientation Agency [NOA], urged Nigerians to shun  misinformation.
