In the complex world of governance and public communication, it is rare to encounter an individual who blends brilliance with humility, authority with compassion, and influence with a sincere commitment to empowering others. Yet, in Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Media Adviser to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, these attributes converge with uncommon ease.
His life stands as a compelling and eloquent testament to the idea that true greatness is not defined by titles or accolades, but by the number of lives we uplift and the legacies we build in the hearts of others.
Dr. Olanrewaju’s journey is one marked by quiet service, impactful mentorship, and an unwavering dedication to the next generation. A consummate journalist and accomplished media strategist, he has always used his platform to uplift others, not for applause, but from a genuine desire to see people grow.
My first encounter with Dr. Olanrewaju came during the early days of my journalism career. After completing a Basic Journalism course at the Radio Nigeria Training School, I joined the Nigerian Tribune as a freelance advert executive. Realising the challenges of securing adverts, I gravitated towards editorial work, conducting interviews and writing reports. One of my early interviews was with Comrade Femi Aborisade. When I asked the Advert Department staff who could help get it published, their answer was unanimous: “Give it to Pastor Sulaiman, he will publish it for you.”
Although Mr. Kunle Oderemi eventually published the piece, a generous one-and-a-half-page spread, I grew increasingly curious about the man everyone referred to so fondly: Pastor Sulaiman.
That curiosity turned into admiration when I joined The Union Newspaper in 2014/2015 as a state correspondent. It was then I began to truly understand why Dr. Olanrewaju commanded such respect, not through force or status, but through consistent kindness and a willingness to support younger professionals.
Later, when I joined Impact Business Radio (IBR 92.5FM) as a Business Correspondent, I sought his advice. He not only gave me guidance but also shared valuable contacts, some of which remain relevant and beneficial to this day.
Now serving as the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr. Olanrewaju has only deepened his commitment to mentorship and service. His role transcends media management, he has become a father figure to many within the Governor’s Office Press Crew and in the media landscape, a leader whose influence is felt in both professional and personal spheres.
I recall graduating with a first-class degree and thinking little of it, but Dr. Olanrewaju came to the Press Centre and said: “Congratulations! You earned a first-class and didn’t even celebrate?” That simple acknowledgment inspired me to share my achievement publicly, a proud moment that might have gone unnoticed without his encouragement.
When I needed a signature to sit for the ARCON professional examination, Dr. Olanrewaju did not hesitate. He simply signed the form and offered words of support, characteristic of a man who sees potential in others and quietly helps them rise.
As Dr. Olanrewaju marked his birthday on Saturday, September 27, it is fitting to pause and reflect on a life defined by character, intellect, and uncommon grace.
Though he holds a doctorate in Mass Communication and Media Technology from Lead City University, Ibadan, a significant academic feat, he wears his achievements lightly. His commitment to excellence is evident in everything he does, from strategic media engagements to his constant efforts to build the capacity of others.
As the trusted voice behind Governor Seyi Makinde , the People’s Governor, Dr. Olanrewaju has distinguished himself by his clarity of thought, depth of insight, and steadfast commitment to truth. But beyond the press statements and strategic communications, he remains a man whose greatest strength is his character.
In a world where power often isolates and achievements create distance, Dr. Olanrewaju has remained grounded. He listens. He advises. He opens doors quietly, without seeking recognition. And he lifts others , not for praise, but because it is in his forte to build.
To many, he is more than a communicator; he is a mentor, a benefactor, and a guide. A man whose influence is etched not in headlines, but in hearts.
He is living proof that greatness is not in how far one rises, but in how many others one brings along on the journey. And for that, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju is worthy of every accolade and celebration.
Happy birthday, sir, and thank you for lifting others, always.
