The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI), Osun State, Professor Akeem Olawale Lasisi, has charged newly admitted students to embrace , innovation, personal transformation and discipline as the institution witnesses rapid infrastructural and academic growth.
Professor Lasisi gave the charge at the 4th Matriculation Ceremony of the university for the 2025/2026 academic session, held on Thursday, at the institution’s permanent site in Osun State.
Addressing principal officers, traditional rulers, invited guests, parents and members of the academic community, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that only 1,225 candidates were admitted out of 6,324 applicants. The successful candidates comprised 856 females and 369 males, reflecting a female-dominant admission pattern across most programmes.
He congratulated the fresh students and their parents for securing admission into what he described as a “citadel of knowledge,” noting that the process was rigorous and merit-driven.
“You have demonstrated high standards of literacy and numeracy through your performance in UTME, school certificate and post-UTME examinations. You have passed through a demanding academic crucible and emerged worthy of further training,” he said.
Professor Lasisi noted that the students were joining the institution at a time of remarkable transformation, particularly in infrastructure and academic development. He revealed that FUHSI is among the few universities in Nigeria that successfully relocated from a take-off site to a permanent campus within three years of establishment.
According to him, several projects were commissioned on December 12, 2025, by the Minister of Education and other dignitaries, underscoring the institution’s rapid growth.
He further announced the commencement of services at the University Teaching Hospital, describing it as a major milestone in the university’s mandate to train competent health professionals for local and global relevance.
The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that nine academic programmes received accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2025, strengthening the institution’s academic standing.
“These achievements are aimed at providing you with a solid foundation and enriching learning experience. However, excellence must be matched with character,” he said.
He urged the students to be diligent, disciplined and morally upright, warning that the university would not tolerate indiscipline, indecency or immoral conduct.
“This administration will challenge you to be outstanding scholars and responsible professionals. You are hereby warned,” he stressed.
The VC thanked guests, parents and stakeholders for their continued support, expressing confidence that the new students would uphold the values and aspirations of the institution.
