Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan conducts Orientation for 350 Students

The Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB), successfully hosted its 2026 Orientation Programme for newly admitted students on Tuesday,  January 14,  2026, aimed at familiarising them with the  College systems, rules and regulations, personal development, well-being, and academic expectations.
The programme was graced by the College Management under the leadership of the Provost, Professor Jonathan J. Atungwu.
The Chairperson of the Orientation Committee, Dr. C. O. Kayode, delivered the welcoming address. She warmly welcomed the College Management, Staff, and the 2025/2026 session fresh students, emphasizing the significance of the orientation in helping students understand the workings of FCAIB and navigating the campus life with ease.
Dr. Kayode noted that the programme featured experienced speakers who would lecture on various topics, including Academic Policies, Personal Development, and Students’ Welfare. She encouraged Students to actively participate, take notes, and ask questions during the discussion session. She thereafter expressed gratitude to the Provost, Prof. J. J. Atungwu for his support and appreciated the Committee members for their unrelenting dedication.
In his opening remarks, Professor Jonathan J. Atungwu welcomed the fresh students and acknowledged the presence of key members of the College Management and Staff. He described the new students as “a critical factor in the growth and future of the College” and provided a brief history of FCAIB, noting its formal establishment in 1921 as part of efforts to develop agriculture in Nigeria:  “Initially functioning as an office station, the Institution evolved into a school and eventually became the renowned citadel of agricultural education it is today.
The Provost  announced a significant increase in students’ enrollment, with approximately 360 new students, representing a significant increase from the previous academic year. He urged students to embrace their studies, describing agriculture as a vital discipline with great national relevance.
He further emphasised that FCAIB has a rich history of producing graduates who excel globally and reminded students that the highest graduating academic classification at the diploma level is a Distinction, which would open doors to numerous opportunities.
Professor Atungwu praised the College’s Lecturers and Administrative Staff for their dedication and assured students of their full support.
He recognised outstanding individuals, including Aponle Aminat Omodasola, and commended the SUG President, Comrade Femi Arala, for his commitment to students’ welfare.
Dr. V. E. Okpeze, Deputy Provost (Academics), addressed students on the importance of morals, ethics, character, and discipline as essential pillars for the expected success. She welcomed all newly admitted ND and HND students and emphasized that education goes beyond acquiring certificates, but essentially germane, to becoming responsible citizens .
In his remarks, the College Registrar’s representative, Mrs. Olanike Popoola, represented by Mr. Samuel Olutayo Abolarin, guided Students on proper documentation procedures, stressing the importance of keeping receipts and official records safe for verification purposes.
Engr. Dr. Ayoade Atere, the immediate past Head of Examinations and Records’ Unit and the current Dean of the School of Engineering, educated students on the CGPA system, examination regulations, and the College’s strict stance against examination malpractice, equipping them with strategies for academic success.
Dr. Mojisola  Osunkoya, the Head, College Library, encouraged Students to make consistent use of the Library, describing it as the “power house of knowledge” for research and academic excellence.
Engr. Adedayo Azeez, the immediate past Dean of Students Affairs, highlighted the importance of mutual respect and communication in fostering positive Staff and Student relationships, while Mrs. Eyitayo Terwanger, the Director of Sports, encouraged students to actively participate in sports and recreational activities, noting the College’s commitment to nurturing athletic talents.
Dr. Modupe Sodamola advised Students on entrepreneurship and personal development, emphasizing creativity, resilience, and innovation as vital tools for success in a global economy.
Engineer John Ijadunola, the Head of the ICT Unit, in his address to the students, emphasized the importance of familiarizing themselves with the College portal and ensuring their personal details are accurately updated on the platform.
Mrs. Anetor Christiana  addressed the Students on health, hygiene, and wellness while emphasizing the need to adopt healthy lifestyles. She highlighted the availability of the College Health Centre to all Students.
The Student Union President, Comrade Femi Arala, congratulated the fresh Students and encouraged them to engage with the Students’ Union leadership, which exists, to protect their interests and promote their welfare.
Engr. O. Gbolagade, Head, Security Unit of the College, enlightened the Students on Campus security, urging students to maintain high security consciousness and to be responsible in conduct, while Mr. Julius Adedeji, Mrs. Olanrewaju Ademidun, and Dr. Ruth Onasanya addressed hostel accommodation and conduct, advising Students to respect and  protect the College properties and adhere strictly to the hostel regulations.
The orientation was  rounded off with an open session, where students shared their thoughts, asked questions and were provided with feedbacks on the various presentations.
Notable attendees at the  auspicious programme were the Deputy Provost (Academics), Dr. V. E. Okpeze; the Registrar, Mr. Abimbade Abass’ representative, Mrs. O. A. Popoola; the Director of Audit, Mr. Olakunle Karunwi; the Head, College Library, Dr. Mojisola Y. Osunkoya as well as Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments/Units, Directors and other Senior Officers.
The College Management reaffirmed its commitment to providing an enabling environment for academic excellence, personal growth, and holistic development.
