Swift intervention by the Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Monday night averted a major disaster when a generator house caught fire at No. 23B Iyaganku Crescent, Ibadan.
The incident, reported through the Security Trust Fund’s 615 emergency line at exactly 9:28 p.m., saw officers of the state fire service, led by Acting Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Bamidele Samsudeen, promptly deployed to the scene.
On arrival, the team discovered the generator house of a private residence engulfed in flames. The firemen quickly curtailed the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the main building and nearby properties.
No casualty was recorded, while properties worth millions of naira were saved. The operation was jointly executed with the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.
The Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, praised the timely efforts of the officers but urged residents to adopt preventive measures.
He urged the public to always unplug electrical appliances when not in use and to equip homes with fire extinguishers to suppress minor outbreaks before they escalate.
“Fire prevention is everybody’s responsibility, and safety must begin at home,” he said.
