In a bid to inspire and uplift young girls, Yejide Girls’ Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan, hosted a successful Girls’ Empowerment Programme, aimed at fostering personal growth, leadership, and emotional intelligence among students.
Setting a reflective tone for the programme. Mr. Kabiru Adeniyi Adisa, FCA, President-General of Guildance Community Development Foundation, delivered the opening remarks, urging students to seize every opportunity to grow academically, socially, and morally.
The highlight of the programme was a keynote lecture on Girls’ Empowerment, Emotional Balance, and Emotional Intelligence by Dr. Taiwo Olusola Aderemi. The session, which included an interactive question-and-answer segment, allowed students to seek clarifications and share personal reflections, making the engagement both practical and inspiring.
The Principal of Yejide Girls’ Grammar School also addressed the gathering, encouraging students to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to building successful careers through hard work and determination.
As part of the empowerment initiative, thirty students were presented with personal hygiene and self-care items, including sanitary pads, lip gloss, wipes, hand cream, body spray, and face masks. Chief (Mrs.) Mary Adenrele Eriyamremu, Founder of Mary Eriya House of Refuge Foundation, personally distributed the items, underscoring her commitment to the welfare of young girls.
Further enriching the programme, Princess Adebumi Adeyemi, CEO of Evolish Travels, delivered a lecture on confidence and leadership on behalf of Princess Adepeju Odunola Adeyemi, Chairperson of Mary Eriya House of Refuge Foundation. Additionally, Miss Shukura Anike Musa educated students on personal hygiene practices, emphasizing the importance of bathing twice daily, brushing teeth twice a day, and changing menstrual pads every four to five hours.
The management of Yejide Girls’ Grammar School expressed profound appreciation to the Mary Eriya House of Refuge Foundation and Guidance Community Development Foundation for their support, noting that their contributions made the programme both impactful and memorable.
In a joint statement, the organisers extended gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Oluwaseyi Makinde, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, the Permanent Secretary and Inspector of Education in Oyo State, the school’s Principal and teachers, students, donors, and volunteers whose collective efforts ensured the success of the initiative.
The event, which combined education, empowerment, and practical support, was widely hailed as a timely and meaningful intervention to equip young girls with the tools for personal development, self-confidence, and future leadership.
