The Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) has called a sober reflection as Muslims in Oyo State joined others to mark the beginning of a new Hijrah.
This was contained in a statement signed by chairman of MUSCOYS, Alhaji Ishaq Kunle Sanni and the General-Secretary, Alhaji Murisiku Abidemi Siyanbade and made available to journalists on Friday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“As Muslims in Oyo state join others to mark the beginning of a new Hijrah 1447A.H, it is essential to know that the sacred moment calls for deep reflection on the essence and importance of Hijrah in our lives.
“Hijrah, as we know is a journey marred by trials and challenges. It is expected that though this challenges and trials are still there, as Muslims, we should work towards improving on our tested unity and deep various ideologies by being Muslims and embrace Islamic brotherhood in all our affairs”, the statement read.
They said the new Islamic year, therefore, offered a divine opportunity to rethink and restrategise to be a true Muslim and migrate from former ways that had divided membees of the community and exposed to the ridicule of the adversaries.
The statement read further: “The month of Muharram marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year and commemorates the Hijrah, Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE and is a cornerstone of Islamic history, representing a turning point for the Muslim community.
“The Hijrah allowed Muslims to establish a community where they could practice their faith freely and develop Islamic principles.
“This new Islamic year, therefore, offers us a divine opportunity to rethink and restrategise to be a true Muslim and migrate from our former ways that has divided us and expose us to the ridicule of our adversaries.
“May this year usher in true unity, progress, and divine blessings for the Ummah. Ameen”.
