The Convener of the Ibadan Entrepreneurs Network, Dr (Mrs) Oyenike Adeleke, has lauded Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for what she described as the judicious and impactful use of taxpayers’ money, saying the administration is creating an enabling environment for entrepreneurship and investment to thrive.

Speaking during an interview with journalists in Ibadan, Adeleke lauded the governor’s efforts in infrastructure, empowerment, and business-friendly policies, noting that his administration’s developmental strides have repositioned Oyo State as a hub for innovation and investment.

“It is obvious that the taxpayers’ money is being used well — going into projects, empowerment initiatives, and infrastructural development,” she said. “That is a major requirement for entrepreneurship to thrive. When investors and business owners are confident in the environment — when roads are motorable and security is assured — they are more willing to do business.”

She added that Makinde’s decision not to increase taxes has encouraged compliance among business owners. “The tax hasn’t increased, and we can clearly see what our taxes are being used for. That encourages more people to pay willingly. It’s a sign of responsible governance,” she said.

Adeleke, a mental health advocate and prominent voice in the business community, also highlighted how the state’s infrastructural upgrades have attracted investors from both within and outside the country.

“Oyo State has become investor-friendly,” she noted. “Good roads, strategic development, and government support make it conducive for businesses. International markets are showing more interest in partnering with us because they can see tangible returns on investments.”

She praised the Makinde administration’s efforts in supporting entrepreneurs, particularly through government programmes and direct support to sectors like agriculture. “Some of our farmers have benefited from fertilizer distributions and government-sponsored training. These are the kinds of partnerships that lift businesses and grow the economy.”

Calling for deeper collaboration between the state government and entrepreneurs, Adeleke said: “We are the bedrock of the economy. Our network includes fashion designers, tech innovators, food processors, and farmers. We’d appreciate more direct engagement. If there are government opportunities, we want to be part of them.”

She also advocated for a stronger push for Made-in-Ibadan products to reach international markets, adding that Ibadan entrepreneurs are producing globally competitive goods.

Adeleke described the governor  as a “can-do governor” who delivers on his promises. “Oyo State is on a steady upward trajectory under his leadership. He picked the state at one level and has taken it several steps higher.”
