Leaders and chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the 11 local government areas of Ibadanland have thrown their weight behind the United Kingdom [UK]-based human rights lawyer, Chief Niyi Aborisade, declaring him the rightful successor to Governor Seyi Makinde in the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial election.
The endorsement came during a stakeholders’ consultative meeting held at Yemetu, Ibadan, where party faithful gathered to strategise and mobilise for Aborisade’s ambition.
Notable figures in attendance included Mallam Muideen Yusuf, Hon. Ibrahim Adelabu, and other grassroots mobilisers and ward coordinators.
Describing Aborisade as a man of integrity, good pedigree, and deep-rooted party loyalty, the leaders noted that his candidacy reflects not only competence but a continuation of trusted leadership in Oyo State.
Mallam Muideen Yusuf remarked:“We must intensify our efforts for this project. Balogun Oderinlo conquered invaders in his time, he is the forefather of Aborisade. This is destiny.”
Hon. Ibrahim Adelabu added:“Chief Aborisade is God-fearing, just, and intellectually sound. He is a writer, an activist, a lawyer, and an industrialist. He has never wavered in his commitment to the PDP. Our leaders are solidly behind him. What we need now is total mobilisation at the ward and zonal levels with a strong, effective coordination structure.”
In his response, Chief Niyi Aborisade expressed gratitude for the support and reiterated his unwavering loyalty to the PDP. He called for unity among party leaders and members, emphasising the importance of grassroots mobilisation ahead of the primaries.
“We have already visited Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso, and Ibarapa zones on three different occasions. We are fully committed to this party, we’re not going anywhere. Unity is non-negotiable. The PDP is our home, and we’ll build on that foundation.
“Let’s go to our wards, compounds, and zones to mobilise. The primary election is fast approaching, and I am confident that Governor Makinde will ensure a level-playing field for all aspirants. With your support, Niyi Aborisade will emerge as the next Governor of Oyo State, and nothing will change that,” he declared.
Invoking the historical legacy of Balogun Oderinlo, a famed Ibadan warrior, saying:“As Balogun Oderinlo once rescued the Yoruba people, we will use Oyo State again to uplift our people. I am your son; you are sending me on this mission, and your efforts will not be in vain.”
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Aborisade said: “This meeting was designed to consult with PDP leaders across all 11 local governments in Ibadanland. We discussed strategies to win the coming election.“The leaders were unanimous in endorsing my candidacy.
They were delighted that someone with a longstanding record of fighting for people’s rights, someone with a clean and consistent reputation, has come forward to serve. They also affirmed that I remain the first and only aspirant who has actively begun consultation across the state.”
