The Nigerian Economic Society (NES), Oyo State chapter, has congratulated Christians on the celebration of Easter, urging Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, unity and economic patriotism for national development.
In an Easter message jointly signed by the State Chairman, Dr. Aminu Alarudeen, and the Secretary, Dr. Victoria Foye, the society described the season as a period of reflection on the virtues of love, sacrifice and renewal.
The economists noted that Easter, which symbolises the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ, offers Nigerians an opportunity to recommit to values that promote national growth and social cohesion.
According to the statement, the country’s economic challenges require collective responsibility, discipline and sincerity of purpose from both leaders and citizens.
“Easter reminds us of the supreme sacrifice made for humanity and calls for a renewed commitment to selflessness, integrity and shared prosperity. As economists, we believe that these values are essential for sustainable economic development and national stability,” the statement read.
The society urged Nigerians to prioritise the common good over personal interests, stressing that prudent management of resources, accountability and transparency remain critical to improving the nation’s economic fortunes.
It also called on policymakers to implement people-oriented policies that would address poverty, unemployment and inflation, while creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
The NES Oyo State chapter further urged citizens to remain hopeful and resilient, expressing optimism that with collective effort and responsible leadership, Nigeria would overcome its socio-economic challenges.
While wishing Christians a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration, the society called for prayers for the nation’s progress and unity.
