The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Oyo State Directorate, has called on citizens to recommit to values that promote peace, unity, and national development.
In a statement commemorating the nation’s historic milestone, the Oyo State Director of NOA, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmat Akande, congratulated Nigerians and described the anniversary as a moment of deep reflection and renewed national purpose.
“As we celebrate Nigeria at 65, it is important that we remember the sacrifices of our founding fathers and the responsibility we all share in building a united, prosperous, and peaceful nation,” Mrs. Akande said.
“Every citizen has a role to play in promoting patriotism, protecting our national symbols, and supporting initiatives that strengthen our democracy and development.”
She emphasised that 65 years of independence is not just a measure of time but a testimony to the resilience, creativity, and enduring spirit of the Nigerian people, who have weathered decades of political, economic, and social challenges. Reaffirming the Agency’s commitment to nation-building, Mrs. Akande highlighted the key focus areas of the NOA in the state, which include civic education, voter sensitisation, national value reorientation, security awareness, and support for government policies and programmes. The directorate, she noted, will continue to engage citizens across local government areas in dialogue, sensitisation campaigns, and grassroots mobilisation aimed at strengthening democratic culture and peaceful coexistence.
She urged residents of Oyo State and Nigerians at large to use the anniversary as an opportunity to deepen their commitment to national service, lawful conduct, and harmonious living, stressing that the country’s progress depends on the collective efforts of all its people.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us. Our diversity should be a strength, not a source of division. We must continue to work together to secure the future we desire for the next generation,” she added.
