Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has said no northerner should contest the presidential election in 2027.
Fintiri, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in February, spoke yesterday during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television.
Fintiri saidthat while any Nigerian politician was constitutionally entitled to contest the presidency in 2027, the south should be allowed to complete its eight-year term before returning power to the north in the interest of national unity.
Fintiri asked Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Tinubu to complete eight years in office.
On his relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Fintiri said there was no breakdown in communication between them, but that he no longer aligned politically with him.
Nothing has gone badly, but everybody has taken their political ways. I am today in APC, they are in another party,” he said.
MEANWHILE, Fintiri has submitted three names to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for consideration for appointment as commissioners.
The governor forwarded the names to the Assembly yesterday, barely a day after the State Commissioner of Works & Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, made his resignation public.
Adamu Atiku resigned his position after refusing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), as most of his colleagues did with Fintiri.
The commissioner-nominees are Sali Idris (Maiha LGA), Muhammed Suleiman (Mubi North LGA), and Chubado Mohammed (Jada LGA).
While Adamu Atiku has made his resignation public, the other two have not been known to have done so.
