The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has dismissed reports of a rift between him and the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, describing such claims as unfounded.
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, the monarch said his attention had been drawn to trending reports suggesting a breakdown in relations between the palace and the state government.
The statement, however, maintained that there is no discord between the Olubadan and the governor, emphasising that both parties continue to maintain cordial relations.
It further clarified that the monarch did not travel out of Ibadan to avoid the coronation ceremony earlier scheduled for Friday, April 3.
According to the palace, Oba Ladoja remains in Ibadan and is in good health, actively discharging his responsibilities as the traditional ruler of the ancient city.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Kabiyesi is hale and hearty in Ibadan and performing the role expected of him as Olubadan,” the statement noted.
The palace also explained that the planned coronation of three High Chiefs was postponed following a request by the affected individuals, who reportedly indicated their unavailability for the ceremony.
It added that the High Chiefs had formally communicated their position to the Olubadan and sought a rescheduling of the event.
The development, according to the statement, has since been conveyed to the Oyo State Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
The clarification comes amid heightened public interest surrounding the proposed coronation and earlier speculation over the monarch’s absence.
