In a resounding victory for justice, accountability, and good governance, the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has successfully secured the conviction of a high-ranking public servant involved in a recruitment scam that defrauded job seekers.

Mr. Wahab Nasiru Olabanji, a former Chief Executive Officer (Accounts) at the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, was convicted on 30 counts of official corruption, obtaining money under false pretense, and fraudulent conversion. Following a rigorous 17-month legal process, the court delivered a landmark judgment on Friday, August 1, 2025, sentencing Olabanji to six months’ imprisonment on each count, with an option of ₦50,000 fine per charge.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered that all funds fraudulently collected from his victims be repaid within three months—a move aimed at restoring justice and compensating those who were deceived.

Chairman of OYACA, Hon. Justice Eni Esan (rtd), applauded the judgment as a powerful message that corruption will no longer go unpunished in Oyo State. She reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption across all sectors of the public service.

This conviction marks a significant step forward in OYACA’s ongoing mission to cleanse the public sector, protect citizens from exploitation, and build a transparent and trustworthy government. It is a clear signal that unethical practices, no matter how deeply rooted, will be exposed and dealt with decisively.
