The Oyo State House of Assembly, on Thursday approved a supplementary appropriation of N299.8 billion, raising the state’s total budget size for the 2025 fiscal year from N684.1 billion to N984 billion.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Budget, Finance, and Appropriation, Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola, disclosed this to journalists shortly after the plenary session in Ibadan.
Babalola, who represents Egbeda State Constituency, said the supplementary budget was necessitated by the need to address critical expenditures that were not included in the initial 2025 budget passed in 2024.
According to him, the newly approved allocation will cover key items such as the reconstruction of the Government House, payment of workers’ pensions, and provisions for the new national minimum wage.
“The reality of the state’s financial obligations in the current fiscal year required a reassessment,” Babalola said.
“This supplementary appropriation reflects the dynamic nature of governance and the need to respond to emerging priorities.”
Following the approval, the Assembly also announced the commencement of its working recess, during which lawmakers will embark on oversight functions in their respective constituencies. The recess will enable legislators to monitor the implementation of government projects and ensure alignment with budgetary provisions.
Babalola stressed that the supplementary budget is aimed at bolstering infrastructure development and social welfare programmes across the state in response to rising economic demands and inflationary trends.
