The Oyo State Government through its Taskforce has kick-started the enforcement against private estate developers operating contrary to the approved regulations on the issue of private estate development in the State.
The Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Akin Funmilayo-Williams disclosed this during the enforcement operation held along Akinyele – Iseyin axis.
Funmilayo-Williams stressed that the increase in the number of Private Estate Developers undertaking site clearing and construction activities without requisite approvals from the Ministry is alarming. Adding that this unauthorised development poses significant risks to orderly urban growth, environmental safety and the implementation of the State’s Physical Development policies.
He maintained that all the Estate Developers are not known to Oyo State Government and do not have any traceable address except on Radio with series of complaints of illegal transactions which had been traced to these unregistered Estate Developers hence their activities needs to be regulated in the public interest and to prevent crisis relating to land grabbing.
The Commissioner explained that the enforcement exercise will help to curb these indiscriminate developments and ascert the Ministry ‘s authority in regulating land use and Urban development within the state.
He urged the affected private estate owners/developers to regularise their Title/Planning Approvals with the State Government within the next 3 days of the service of the Contravention Notice to avoid enforcement of Town and County Planning Laws and Regulations.
All the Estate Developers are urged to relate with the Office of the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development for further information, clarifications and directives.
