In a decisive move to further strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved sweeping changes in the leadership of the nation’s Armed Forces.

The President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.

In the new appointments, Major-General W. Shaibu becomes the Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke is the new Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas assumes office as the Chief of Naval Staff.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

Announcing the changes on Friday, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, said the appointments are part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance coordination, efficiency, and professionalism within the Armed Forces.

President Tinubu, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing service chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” commending their contributions to national security and military reform.

The President urged the newly appointed service chiefs to “justify the confidence reposed in them” by upholding the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the military.

“The President charges the newly appointed Service Chiefs to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the statement read.
