The Innovation Center  for Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development (ICLED) Business School, in collaboration with the University of Lagos Office of Career Development and Services (OCDS), is set to host the much-anticipated Career Services Programme on September 9th, 2025, at the UNILAG NIT Hub.

Themed “Solving the Graduate Unemployment Crisis in Nigeria: The Way Forward,” the programme is designed to showcase the practical skills, professional exposure, and entrepreneurial readiness the penultimate and final year students of UNILAG have gained in the skill-up initiative training given by ICLED Business school.

At the training, the students were exposed to soft skills training in four tracks areas of people,work-ready, career planning and leas skills. These sessions were delivered by seasoned professionals and industry experts, exposing students to real-world insights and practical applications.

As part of their learning experience, students also took part in mock interviews to sharpen their confidence, CV reviews to improve their employability profiles, and mentorship sessions with career coaches.

To showcase their acquired skills, the students have been grouped into teams and will engage in a debate competition centred on the program’s theme. This interactive session will allow them to demonstrate not only their communication skills but also their ability to analyse, innovate, and propose solutions to Nigeria’s unemployment challenge.

A panel of judges drawn from leading corporate organisations, NGOs, and academia will be present to evaluate the students’ performances, provide feedback, and identify promising talents for further opportunities.

Speaking ahead of the programme. Prof. Olajumoke Familoni, the president/provost of ICLED Business School emphasized the urgency of bridging the gap between higher education and employability:

“This programme is more than just training it’s about transforming students into confident, skilled professionals who are prepared to compete in today’s global workforce and contribute solutions to one of Nigeria’s biggest challenges: graduate unemployment”, the professor said.

On that note, ICLED Business School extends its profound gratitude to the Office of Career Development Services (OCDS), the Vice-Chancellor and University leadership, as well as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics & Career Services) of the University of Lagos for their unwavering commitment to the holistic development of students. Their vision, which goes beyond academic excellence to include career preparedness, leadership development, and entrepreneurship training, has made this collaboration possible.
