UNIMED Researcher Gets Best GBS Investigator Award in Kenya

A Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Bamimore Victoria Oluwatope, shone brilliantly at the 4th International Symposium on Streptococcus agalactiae Disease  (ISSAD 2026).
The conference hosted over 200 researchers and experts from 37 countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Pakistan and South Africa.
Of the participants, six outstanding researchers were recognized, with Bamimore Victoria emerging as one of the Best GBS (Group B Streptococcus agalactiae) Investigators. She was recognized for her efforts in research “Uvaria chamae Compounds as Natural Inhibitors of GBS Virulence”. The research contributes to ongoing global efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance and supports the discovery of novel therapeutic agents.
Speaking of the award, the Bamimore said,” I am deeply honoured to have been one of the recipients of the Young ISSAD Award”. She described the award as a prestigious recognition presented to exceptional early career researchers.
She went further to say “this award acknowledges the scientific quality, innovation and global relevance of my research”. She added that “being selected among a small group of awardees from across the world highlights the impact and promise of my work in advancing infectious disease research and public health”.
Reacting to this development, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIMED, Professor Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe congratulated the researcher and said “this is a reaffirmation of the quality of research being done at UNIMED, and the global relevance of our human resources”.
