We’ll continue to push for character-driven education, say Adelakun, Dominion varsity VC

The Chancellor of Dominion University, Bishop Taiwo Victor Adelakun, and the institution’s  Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abel Olorunnisola, on Tuesday said that the university will continue to push for a character-driven education.They stated this while speaking at a pre-convocation press conference  preparatory to  its third convocation ceremony scheduled for October 23–26, 2024, which was held at the university’s Conference Hall, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibadan.

 Adelakun reiterated its unwavering commitment to delivering character-driven education that blends academic rigour with spiritual depth.

The chancellor emphasised that Dominion University stands apart as a faith-based institution rooted in values, integrity, and holistic development.

“Here at Dominion University, we don’t just train the mind, we train the soul and the spirit. Our graduates are groomed for excellence and built for light. This is the ideal environment for any parent who desires not only academic success for their children but also moral and spiritual grounding ,” Adelakun stated.

Bishop Adelakun, who also serves as the Presiding Bishop of Victory International Church (Rehoboth Cathedral), highlighted the university’s serene and secure environment, uninterrupted academic calendar, and dedicated faculty as key attributes reinforcing its mission.

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abel Olorunnisola, announced that a total of 130 students will receive first degrees during the 2024 convocation ceremony. The graduands are drawn from two of the university’s three faculties: Faculty of Computing and Applied Sciences – 71 graduates (54.6%), and Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences – 59 graduates (45.4%).

Out of the total, 19 students completed their studies in the Alpha Semester (April 2025), while 111 concluded during the Omega Semester (August 2024). The graduating class comprises 71 females (54.6%) and 59 males (45.4%).

Dominion University continues to see strong academic performance, with 24 students graduating with First Class Honours. Significantly, female students accounted for 75% of this distinction.

In the Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences, 13 of the 14 First Class graduates (93%) were female.

In the Faculty of Computing and Applied Sciences, 5 of the 10 First Class graduates (50%) were female.

Additional classifications include:Second Class Upper – 53, Second Class Lower – 47, and third Class – 6.

Since its inception in February 2019, Dominion University has continued to build a reputation for academic excellence and spiritual formation. All programmes are fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Olorunnisola cited the successful launch of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences as a key milestone in the university’s development. He also praised the academic staff for attracting competitive international research grants and awards.

“This convocation is not just a ceremony, it’s a celebration of years of resilience, excellence, and vision. Our graduates are already making significant strides, from postgraduate studies in top global institutions to employment in key sectors of the economy,” he said.

The VC provided a cumulative graduate record, revealing that Dominion University has now produced 374 graduates since its first convocation in 2023.

 

In his concluding remarks, Prof. Olorunnisola reaffirmed the institution’s core mission:“Dominion University remains committed to raising a generation of leaders equipped not only with academic knowledge but with character, compassion, and conviction. Our vision is to build individuals who will contribute meaningfully to national transformation and global impact.”
