Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Friday expressed his readiness to engage any stakeholder opposed to the proposed name change of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, through constructive and superior arguments.
Governor Makinde made this known during the inauguration of governing councils for some tertiary institutions in the state, where he officially signed into law the renaming of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, to Michael Adeniyi Koleoso Polytechnic.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Governing Councils for The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Michael Koleosho Polytechnic, Saki; College of Agriculture, Igboora; College of Education, Lanlate; and Oyo State College of Science and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan; Makinde reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing adequate financial support, material, and human for the development of the institutions.
The governor, who warned students against undue agitation and protest, noted that while the decision to rename institutions was aimed at honouring deserving individuals.
Makinde; who urged the new governing council members and administrators of concerned tertiary institutions to be diligent in discharging their duties, also took the opportunity to express his appreciation for the continued support he has received from labour unions in the state since the beginning of his administration.
Other highlight of the event was the signing into law of the renaming of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, to Michael Adeniyi Koleoso Polytechnic.
The newly appointed Chairmen of the Governing Councils for Oyo State tertiary institutions are Prof. Lanre Nassar for The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Dr. Bisi Ojebola for Michael Koleosho Polytechnic, Saki; Dr. Gideon Amusan for the College of Agriculture, Igboora; Comrade Olusegun Oyewumi for the Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate; and Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan for the Oyo State College of Science and Technology, Eleyele.
