Wellsradio 89.3 FM, Ibadan, is marking its second anniversary with a community-focused health initiative aimed at promoting family well-being and social responsibility, as the station celebrates two years of purposeful and wholesome broadcasting.
Rather than opting for a conventional anniversary celebration, the management of the radio station has chosen to give back to the community through a series of free medical and wellness services for residents of Ibadan, particularly families, the elderly and other vulnerable groups.
Speaking on behalf of the station, the Acting General Manager, Mr Ayo Emmanuel-Ojo, said the anniversary activities were deliberately designed as a service-oriented programme in appreciation of listeners who have supported the station since its establishment.
According to him, Wellsradio’s identity as a family-focused station comes with a responsibility to engage its audience beyond the airwaves and contribute meaningfully to their overall well-being.
“We believe healthy families are the foundation of a healthy society. As a station that promotes family values and wholesome content, it is important for us to extend that commitment into real-life impact. This anniversary is our way of saying thank you to the Ibadan community,” Emmanuel-Ojo said.
He added that the initiative aligns with the vision of the station’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, Evangelist Lillian Bademosi, whose philosophy centres on using media as a tool for moral uplift, social responsibility and community development.
The anniversary activities, tagged Family Health Week, are scheduled to hold from Wednesday, January 14, to Saturday, January 17, 2026, and will feature a range of free medical and wellness services delivered in partnership with reputable healthcare providers in the city.
Activities commenced on Wednesday with a health walk, which took off from the Wellsradio 89.3 FM premises on Alaafin Avenue, Oluyole Estate, and ended at the High Court, Ring Road, Ibadan. The walk, according to the organisers, was designed to promote physical fitness and raise awareness about the importance of preventive healthcare.
On Thursday, January 15, residents are expected to benefit from free eye care services, including basic eye screening and consultations, to be provided by Makkah Specialist Eye Hospital at Elebu Junction, along the Akala Expressway.
The programme continues on Friday, January 16, with physiotherapy care and a health talk specifically targeted at the elderly. The session will be facilitated by Premiere Physiotherapy, Oluyole Estate, Ibadan, with a focus on mobility, pain management and healthy ageing.
The week-long celebration will climax on Saturday, January 17, with general medical care services to be offered by Zoe Specialist Hospital, also located in Oluyole Estate. All medical services under the programme are scheduled to commence daily from 10:00 a.m.
Wellsradio 89.3 FM, branded as “Your Preferred Wholesome Radio,” has carved a niche for itself over the past two years by delivering family-oriented, value-driven and socially responsible content. The station has remained consistent in promoting programmes that encourage healthy living, positive relationships and community cohesion.
Stakeholders and residents have commended the initiative, describing it as a practical demonstration of how media organisations can contribute to public health and social well-being.
