The National Orientation Agency (NOA).in Oyo State, on Friday called for the empowerment of the teeming youth population for a brighter future .The Oyo State NOA Director, Mrs Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande,  made the call in a statement made available to journalists in commemoration  of  this year’s  World Population Day.

The global celebration themed :”Empowering Youth to Build the Families They Want” Oyo state  NOA director highlights the need to plan for the rainy days and equip the youths to face future challenges and  fit in to compete favourably  with their mates world over.

Akande  emphasised that rather than  be a burden that can draw us back,  we should use our  high population density to favour the youths and pave a golden path for them to thread on  in order to excel in their respective endeavours so that they will shun vices and embrace ethical values that can make them useful to  the nation- building.

The director said: “The theme of this year’s world population day is very apt. An untrained child is  a timing bomb that can explode at any time.  Our pride is having one of largest-ever generation of young people in the world, and we should leverage on that to produce the word best in all enterprises.

“Population bloom in any country is never being use to earn a trophy but if rightfully channelled, it  can  impact on nation’s development and economic growth.

“At a time like this , we should be more concerned with population related issues of equal opportunities for all, human rights to generate rights and choices for our youths, family planning for better future  reproductive health,  using population as a tool for poverty eradication and so on”.

The state director urged   the citizens to give equal access to their wards and children  in their educational pursuits, irrespective of gender and  for a balanced development.
