The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as part of ongoing consultations aimed at building a coalition of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, arrived at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Ibadan, at about 2:44 p.m., accompanied by former Imo State governor, Achike Udenwa, and Senator Ben Obi, among other associates.
The delegation was received by Governor Makinde before proceeding into a closed-door meeting that lasted several hours.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Obi said the visit formed part of broader engagements among opposition leaders to forge unity and present a formidable alternative platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
According to him, discussions with Makinde centred on strengthening collaboration and advancing talks on a proposed political coalition.
He noted that the emerging alliance is focused on repositioning the country’s economy from a consumption-driven model to a production-oriented one, which he described as critical to national development.
The meeting also had in attendance former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Monsurat Sunmonu, and the Senior Executive Assistant to the Governor on General Duties, Chief Bayo Lawal.
