The General Overseer of Faith and Miracle International Church,  (FMIC) Senior Prophet Gbenga Faith David,  has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure justice and fairness guide government policy, warning that granting amnesty to perpetrators of violent crimes would weaken the rule of law.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday at the FMIC headquarters in Ibadan, Prophet David  formerly known as G.F. Adetuberu , addressed issues of national leadership, insecurity, and religion.
“Leadership must be rooted in fairness. People should be given what they deserve. Those who kill should not be rewarded with amnesty. Justice must be seen to be done if we are serious about building a stable nation,” he said.
While noting the complexity of Nigeria’s security challenges, the cleric insisted government responses should be driven by justice, not expediency.
“Everyone must be treated fairly. Policies must reflect justice, not convenience. When people see fairness, it restores confidence in leadership,” he added.
Prophet David argued that Nigeria’s problems are not caused by religion itself but by human moral failure. “Nigeria is not failing because we are religious. Early religious movements built schools and institutions that shaped society. The problem is not religion, but how people choose to live and interpret it,” he said.
He warned against criminals hiding under faith, noting that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of violence often mislabeled as religious conflict. “What we are witnessing is not truly religion-driven conflict, but wickedness hiding under the cover of faith. Our faith is not the problem; it is the people,” he stated.
On governance, he urged young Nigerians to be realistic and proactive. “No nation is perfect. We must become industrious and understand that real change begins internally before it manifests externally,” he said.
The cleric described leadership as a delicate responsibility requiring wisdom and integrity, and cautioned public officials to weigh their words and decisions.
He also encouraged Christians to participate in politics to help restore moral direction, provided they remain principled. “Christians should not shy away from politics. God can guide leaders, but they must live disciplined lives ,fair, prayerful, and accountable , understanding that actions have consequences,” he said.
Prophet David called on religious institutions to uphold truth during national crises.
“The church must continue to preach the truth. We must not adjust the message to suit circumstances. Truth is what holds society together,” he stated.
