A former Ondo First Lady, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has announced that she has secured the Labour Party (LP)  ticket to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Owerri Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Anyanwu-Akeredolu said on Wednesday that she had obtained her certificate of clearance as the party’s candidate for the constituency.
The former first lady acknowledged that some supporters might be disappointed by her decision not to continue in the senatorial race but said the move was made in the interest of party unity and stability.
“I understand that some may feel disappointed that I did not clinch the Senatorial ticket. Indeed, the decision to transition to the House of Representatives race was not an easy one.
“However, it became necessary in the overriding interest of party unity and stability, especially at a time when our great party is working collectively to rebuild after a prolonged period bedevilled by internal crisis and court actions,” she said.
She explained that her decision was also influenced by her commitment to collective leadership within the party.
“I chose to be a team player in a party led by a fellow woman,  one of the major reasons I joined the Labour Party in the first place,” she stated.
The Labour Party candidate added that her political objective remained unchanged irrespective of the office she eventually occupies.
She said: “My mission remains unchanged, regardless of the chamber in which I eventually serve in the National Assembly: to advance female representation in elective positions and provide compassionate, courageous, and purposeful leadership”.
