The Oyo State Government has announced the receipt of over four million insecticide-treated nets from the World Health Organisation (WHO), which will be distributed to women and other vulnerable groups across the 33 local government areas of the state.The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, disclosed this during the Inter-Ministerial Briefing held at the Governor’s Office, Ibadan.
Ajetunmobi stated that plans for the distribution of the insecticide-treated nets are currently underway. The commissioner added that house- marking for eligible beneficiaries will take place from July 10th to July 17th, 2025. She also revealed that Governor Makinde had approved the renovation of the first phase of the Central Diagnostic Laboratory upgrade aiming to prevent childhood anemia, and supporting blood transfusion services.
Ajetunmobi also announced the establishment of an Anti-Quackery Taskforce by the Ministry of Health to clamp down on fake medical practitioners in the state.
She issued a stern warning to unqualified doctors and nurses to desist from their illegal practices or face legal consequences.
She further disclosed that Governor Makinde has released ₦30 million as counterpart funding to support efforts aimed at interrupting the transmission of certain neglected tropical diseases endemic to the state.
The Commissioner urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children receive immunizations, particularly against polio, to help prevent the spread of the disease in Oyo State.
