The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan has rejected the move by the Oyo State Government to rename the institution as Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, urging Governor Makinde to reconsider the decision. The rejection was stated in a press release signed by the Union President, Oladipupo Olamide.
The student president described the move as disappointing and unjustifiable, warning that it could erase over 50 years of academic legacy. He argued that the institution has built a reputation for quality education and has produced graduates who contribute significantly to national development.
The union leader expressed that they believe changing the name could damage the school’s identity and diminish its standing in the academic community.
He called on the state government to reverse the decision and emphasized its willingness to engage in constructive dialogue with the state government in order to find a more acceptable alternative, if necessary.
