The Bishop of Ibadan Anglican Diocese, the Most Rev Joseph Akinfenwa has called on President Bola Tinubu and other political office holders to cut down their salaries and allowances to match up with the current sacrifices being borne by the masses.
Akinfenwa made the call while speaking on the state of the nation during the Christmas service held at the Cathedral of Saint James The Great, Oke-Bola, Ibadan.
The Most Rev’d, who expressed happiness that President Tinubu’s economic policies were beginning to yield positive outcomes in the oil sector, urged political officeholders to review their salaries and allowances so as to be at par with the masses in the process of nation building
The clergyman explained that the citizens had adjusted to the current economic realities while nursing the hope of seeing a stronger economy.
He admonished the people to be patient with the president and his team, saying with the steps taken so far, the hardship in the land would soon become a thing of the past.
Akinfenwa also urged governments at all levels to prioritise policies and projects that stimulate the real economy and promote job creation.
“As we celebrate Christmas, we should remember that the incarnation of Jesus Christ birthed new hope for all humanity.
“Therefore, let us in the spirit of Christmas embrace hope in God, knowing that men may fail but God will never fail us,” he said.
Akinfenwa prayed for God’s comfort upon all who lost their lives in various mishaps across the nation and in Ibadan.
He lauded Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for his strides in many sectors of the state.
He urged Nigerians never to lose hope but to prepare to embrace the new season of abundance coming for the nation in 2025
