Lead City University (LCU), Ibadan, has once again reaffirmed its status as a powerhouse in university sports, delivering an exceptional performance at the just-concluded 2025 Nigerian Private University Games Association (NPUGA) tournament. Hosted at Babcock University, Ilishan Remo, Ogun State, this year’s edition saw 25 universities competing across various sporting disciplines.

The LCU Gladiators rose to the occasion, clinching second place overall with an impressive haul of 25 medals, a testament to the university’s enduring commitment to excellence in sports. Among the standout achievements was the men’s football team, which claimed first place for the fourth consecutive time, further solidifying LCU’s dominance in the sport.

The university’s athletes also made their mark in track and field, particularly in the 800-meter race, as well as in tennis, showcasing their versatility and competitive edge across multiple events.

Key to the team’s success was thorough preparation, strategic planning, and early arrival at the venue, which allowed athletes to settle in and focus. The presence of dedicated medical staff, including registered nurses, ensured that the athletes were in peak condition throughout the tournament—demonstrating LCU’s commitment to athlete welfare and professionalism.

“This outstanding performance reflects the strength, discipline, and unity of our student-athletes,” said Dr. Ayobami Owolabi, Deputy Registrar, Corporate Communications and Student Services. “Their success is not just a win for sports, but a triumph of resilience, preparation, and the unwavering support of the university community.”

The LCU Gladiators’ remarkable showing at NPUGA 2025 has not only brought pride to the university but also set a new benchmark for future sporting competitions. With strong momentum and institutional backing, the future looks bright for Lead City University’s sports program.
