Former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and Balogun Musulumi of Ibadanland, Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS), Ibadan Command, over what he described as rising security threats against his life and loyalists within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A copy of the  petition addressed to the DSS Director was made available to journalists on Tuesday, in Ibadan.

Gbolarumi urged the secret police to look into his petition and protect his life as well as  those of his supporters.

He recalled a violent incident that occurred during the Oyo State PDP governorship primaries held on May 23, 2022, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, where his delegates were allegedly attacked.

According to him, his supporters who had gathered at the venue to vote were molested, physically assaulted, and allegedly subjected to gunshots by unidentified persons. He stated that some of his delegates narrowly escaped being hit by bullets during the attack.

Gbolarumi said operatives of the DSS assigned to his security detail were forced to fire shots into the air to disperse the attackers and protect his supporters. He added that he was compelled to leave the venue before the commencement of voting in order to evacuate his injured delegates and ensure their safety.

He further alleged that similar threats resurfaced on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, during a meeting of the Ibadan North Local Government Area of the PDP held at Salvation Primary School, Yemetu, Ibadan.

He said at the meeting, a self-acclaimed party member was said to have made threatening remarks against Gbolarumi’s loyalists. According to the petition, Asipa allegedly declared that all Gbolarumi’s supporters holding official positions would be removed and that others should be physically attacked.

Gbolarumi claimed that the said person  further cautioned that his targets should not be shot, which he interpreted as an indication that firearms were available to the group. He also alleged that the said person  stated during the meeting that he and others had been tracking his movements.

The former deputy governor described the statements as hate speech and a direct threat to his personal safety and that of his supporters. He said a video clip of the alleged remarks was attached to his petition as evidence.

He added that his fears were heightened when, less than 24 hours after the alleged threats, one of his loyalists, Mr. Stephen Olaniyi, received a termination letter from his place of work.

According to him, this development appeared to confirm part of the threats earlier issued.

Gbolarumi stated that the termination reinforced his belief that there was an organised plan to intimidate, victimise, and possibly attack him and his supporters.

“I therefore pray that the DSS looks into this petition,” he wrote, urging the security agency to investigate the matter and take proactive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

It was observed that the petition was also copied to the national leadership of the PDP and the party’s South-West zonal office.
