The new in-takes for Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora, National and Higher National Diploma Programmes for 2025/2026 Academic Session have been formally admitted into the institution at its 17th matriculation ceremony held on Wednesday, March 5, 2026.
In his speech at the occasion, the Rector, Prof. Akinola Akinlabi challenged the students to engage productively in their studies, imbibe hard work, determination, dedication and discipline in order to achieve success, while reiterating that OYSCATECH will not condone any form of indiscipline or unruly behaviour, act of gangsterism, cultism and any form of indecent dressing.
In his words, “let me inform you that out of thousands of applicants that qualified and applied for admission into various National Diploma Programmes, 1,393 applicants have been offered admissions into full time and Part time ND programmes while 603 applicants were admitted into full time and Part time Higher National Diploma Programmes (HND). The total students admitted for both ND and HND progammes including full time and Part time students is 1,996 for 2025/2026 academic session.
“The institution is unique and well respected as an institution that places high premium on practical, entrepreneurship training, skills acquisition, research and community service being a full-fledged polytechnics since April 2016, the polytechnic has adequate qualified manpower and facilities for effective general administration, teaching and research.
“The vision of the institution is to become a leading centre for excellence in Agriculture, Technology and Management through the training of the youths who would become innovative, self-employed and agents of food sufficiency, therefore we will not relent in our mandate at training youths for productive development, while the education, training and orientation you shall receive will equip you for the challenges of life outside the polytechnic.”
Prof. Akinlabi appreciated the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his unwavering effort on the continuous payment of Staff salary and agriculture in Oyo State.
The Rector also appreciated all Management Staff, union Leaders and Staff of the institution for their support towards moving the polytechnic forward, most especially during the last accreditation exercise. He admonished them not to relent.
He explained that agribusiness is another area with immense potential and opportunities which has made OYSCATECH to place strong emphasis on Agribusiness Education and Training.
The Rector encouraged everyone to tap into the vast potential of agribusiness and contribute to the growth and development of this sector.
Prof. Akinlabi revealed that OYSCATECH has witnessed various transformation and collaborative efforts which include; commencement of some degree programme of Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) for those willing to top up their HND and those for direct entry to stay back and have their degrees, while the institution has equally signed all memorandum of understanding with Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso towards the running of its degree programmes in OYSCATECH.
Others include; full accreditation of all ND and HND programmes, four interventions received from TETFund for 2025 and well equipped ICT centre for JAMB CBT and training.
According to him, “the institution received donation of demonstration farm and farm centre by Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development and Donation of Garri and Fufu processing factories by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
“The institution further collaborated with the Corporate and Social development Agency and they have assisted in the completion of the Model village, which is now in use. We have also submitted another request which is been given consideration. We are also collaborating with international organizations like Soiless, International Centre for Research and Agricultural Development (CIRAD) France, Apple village establishment, Cassava value added Association for Bio-ethanol production and National Agricultural Land and Development Agency (NALDA) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which has also shown interest in supporting the institution via intervention on infrastructures, among others.”
Prof. Akinlabi hinted that very soon, the perimeter fencing of the institution will commence while the institution is still expecting the delivery of a Toyota Hiace Bus.
Earlier, the Registrar, Mr. R.F.A. Adeniji who was represented by Mr. Olajire Gbadamosi, the Deputy Registrar Personnel, administered the matriculation oath on the fresh students who promised to abide by the rules and regulations of the institution.
