The Ode-Aye community in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State has been thrown into mourning following the death of a prominent community leader and retired army officer, Christopher Olatubara Ikutiminu, who passed on March 20, 2026.

In a tribute, Sir Chief Moses Akinmade described the late Ikutiminu, fondly called “Major Kuti,” as a distinguished leader whose contributions to community development left an enduring legacy.

Akinmade said the deceased was widely respected for his leadership qualities, describing him as “a motivator, a patriot, and a man deeply committed to the growth and progress of Ode-Aye.”

According to him, Ikutiminu played a central role in virtually all major community-driven projects, either as a leader or as part of the team that conceptualised and executed them.

The late Ikutiminu served as Chairman of the Ode-Aye Development Association (ODA), Lagos, for 14 uninterrupted years, a period during which the association witnessed significant growth. His leadership also led to the formation of the Federation of Ode-Aye Development Associations (FOADA), where he served as pioneer president for 13 years.

Under his stewardship, several landmark projects were executed in Ode-Aye, including the establishment of a post office, a United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch which later became the Okitipupa branch, Layelu Microfinance Bank, and the construction of an ultra-modern community town hall—said to be the first of its kind in Ikale land.

Beyond infrastructure, Akinmade noted that the late community leader initiated economic development efforts, including the establishment of Ikale Bitumen Limited and efforts to secure a Federal Government licence for the proposed Ode-Aye Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited.

He added that the refinery project was on the verge of commencement before Ikutiminu’s death.

The tribute also highlighted the deceased’s selfless service, noting that he named major projects after the community rather than himself or family members, reflecting his deep commitment to collective progress.

Describing his passing as a significant loss, Akinmade said the community would continue to remember Ikutiminu’s contributions and dedication.

He also paid tribute to the late Ikutiminu’s personal life, describing him as a devoted family man, loyal friend, and a man of strong faith.

“His legacy of service and love for the community will endure,” Akinmade said.

The death of Ikutiminu has been described as the end of an era in Ode-Aye, with residents and associates reflecting on his impact and leadership.
