The management of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education (EAUE), Oyo, has strongly refuted a recent report which alleged an attempted rape incident involving an unnamed Head of Department and an unnamed female NCE graduate of the institution.
In an official statement released over the weekend through the university’s Media and Public Relations Office, the institution described the report as “fictitious, malicious, and damaging,” calling for the withdrawal the story within 48 hours or face legal action.
The publication, dated August 4, 2025, claimed that an unnamed Head of Department at the university allegedly forced himself on a former female student who came to collect her academic results. However, the university has dismissed the story as unfounded and lacking credibility, emphasizing that no such report has ever been formally submitted to the institution by any graduate.
“The University Management did not receive any complaint from any NCE graduate of our institution on any matter relating to an attempt to rape by any Head of Department,” the statement clarified.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan, has nonetheless ordered a formal investigation into the matter—even in the absence of a complainant—underscoring the university’s commitment to transparency, justice, and the protection of all students.
The statement also took issue with the journalistic integrity of the publication, noting that Legit.ng failed to contact the alleged accused, the University Registrar, or any other official before going public with the story.
“The report was published in bad faith, without investigation or effort to verify facts. No effort was made to contact university authorities for balance,” said ‘Wale Adeoye, the university’s Media and Public Relations Officer. The university also pointed to a disturbing claim within the article alleging widespread sexual exploitation by some male lecturers, asserting that no such cases have been formally reported or brought before the institution’s management.
“We view this as a deliberate attack on the reputation of an institution with a legacy spanning over 150 years,” the statement added.
The institution affirmed its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, emphasising that it would never shield any staff member from accountability if credible allegations were made.
“We are committed to building a university of repute. No leadership of this university has ever, or will ever, cover up wrongdoing. Allegations of this nature must be handled responsibly, not weaponized for traffic or scandal.”
The university concluded by thanking members of the public and responsible media outlets who have reached out for clarification, reaffirming its dedication to fairness, truth, and justice.
