Following the inauguration of the Advertising Practitioners’ Association of Oyo State Chapter (APAOC), Chief Lecturer and Fellow of Registered Practitioners in Advertising (FRPA), Dr Adesola Olutoyin Alimi, emerged as chairman of the association. The towering academic brings to the role decades of experience in academia, advertising, publishing and visual communication.
A distinguished scholar, author and communication design expert, Dr Alimi currently heads the Department of Art, Design and Printing Technology at The Polytechnic, Ibadan. He holds both M.Tech and PhD degrees in Applied Arts (Communication Design) from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, where he developed a strong research interest in semiotics, advertising design and visual representation in the media.
For years, his scholarly works have focused on the intersection of indigenous cultural symbols and contemporary visual communication, with particular emphasis on the use of cultural icons in advertising and the evolving role of art as a language of communication in the digital era. His peer-reviewed publications continue to contribute to discussions on cultural identity and its relevance in modern media landscapes.
With a teaching career spanning more than two decades, Dr Alimi has trained generations of students in advertising, graphic design, printing and publishing. His contributions to creative education have earned him recognition within academic and professional circles.
Aside from classroom work, he is a professional member of the Society of Nigerian Artists, a certified teacher registered with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) , and a Fellow of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) . He is also a member of many professional associations, including the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) and others. This reflects his enduring commitment to literature, communication, leadership and creative expression.
A consummate graphic designer, poet, publisher, art critic and public speaker, Dr Alimi has participated in numerous art exhibitions and authored several academic and faith-based publications. He is widely acknowledged for mentoring young designers and creative professionals, many of whom have gone on to establish successful careers in the industry.
With professional influence extending beyond teaching and research, Dr Alimi has served as an external examiner to several polytechnics across the country and has worked with the National Board for Technical Education as a resource person in graphic design, printing, publishing and advertising.
As chairman of APAOC, the scholar pledges to leverage his vast academic, professional and creative experience to change the face of integrated marketing communications in Oyo State.
