The University of Ibadan (UI) has approved the appointment of former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ezekiel Olusola Ayoola, and 16 other distinguished academics as Emeritus Professors.
The appointments were approved in recognition of their contributions to scholarship, research, teaching and the development of the university.
Ayoola, a distinguished mathematician, served as Head of the Department of Mathematics and was the second occupant of the Pastor E. A. Adeboye Professorial Chair of Mathematics at the university. He retired from the institution last year.
Born on September 26, 1955, in Oyo, Oyo State, Ayoola obtained his B.Sc. degree in Mathematics from UI in 1984, followed by an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the university in January 1999.
His research interests include stochastic analysis, quantum stochastic differential equations, stochastic finance and mathematical physics.
He became Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the university in November 2021, having previously served as Head of the Department of Mathematics.
He has advocated increased and sustained government investment in mathematical sciences and basic research as a foundation for Nigeria’s technological advancement.
