Apostle Dr Sybil Olufunmilayo Akinfenwa, convener of the Sheerah Generation Celebration, has urged Christian women to embrace holistic parenting and child development to promote public safety and build a more responsible society.
Akinfenwa made the call on Saturday during the grand finale of the 2026 Sheerah Generation Celebration organised by Victorious Christ Chapel under the theme, “Be Inspired.”
Speaking on the topic, “Christian Women in Total Building: Towards a Safer Society,” she emphasised the need for parents to nurture their children physically, spiritually, mentally and socially, describing the four dimensions as essential to raising responsible citizens and future leaders.
She said Christian women must draw inspiration from their faith and deploy their God-given abilities to strengthen families, transform communities and contribute to national development.
Citing the biblical account of Sheerah in 1 Chronicles 7:24, Akinfenwa noted that the woman distinguished herself by building Lower Beth-horon, Upper Beth-horon and Uzzen-sheerah, despite the limited recognition accorded women in the patriarchal society of her time.
According to her, Sheerah’s achievements demonstrate how women can overcome societal limitations and make lasting contributions when they recognise and develop their potentials.
She also cited the biblical account of Bezalel and Oholiab in Exodus 31, who were equipped with wisdom and skills to execute the work of constructing the Ark of the Covenant, as an example of the importance of divine inspiration in accomplishing purposeful tasks.
“She built totally, for her time and future generations. Because she built those cities successfully, it shows she was a total woman who had grown and developed physically, spiritually, mentally and socially,” she said.
Akinfenwa warned that incomplete child development could undermine efforts to raise responsible individuals, stressing that parents must pay attention to every aspect of their children’s upbringing.
“Halfway building is not sustainable. You must build totally, perfectly and completely. Therefore, when you build totally, you have built towards a safer society,” she said.
The cleric identified Jesus Christ’s childhood development, as recorded in Luke 2:52, as a model for holistic upbringing, noting that his growth in wisdom, stature and favour with God and humanity illustrated the importance of developing children across different aspects of life.
She urged mothers and caregivers to prioritise moral instruction, spiritual development, intellectual growth and social responsibility, adding that the values children imbibe at home could influence their conduct in adulthood.
Akinfenwa also called on parents to teach their children appropriate behaviour, including modesty and responsible self-presentation, saying that effective parenting should begin early and remain consistent throughout a child’s development.
Expressing concern over criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, terrorism and banditry, she urged families to reflect on their role in shaping the attitudes and behaviour of younger generations.
“Some mothers birthed and parented the kidnappers, armed robbers, rapists, terrorists and bandits of today. Let us think,” she said.
According to her, the emergence of what she described as the Sheerah Generation would depend on raising a new generation of responsible individuals prepared to provide leadership in homes, religious institutions, businesses, markets, associations and government.
The celebration, which commenced on October 5 and ended with the grand finale on October 10, also featured presentations on women’s contributions to professional development, entrepreneurship and parenting.
Deaconess Nnena Okon spoke on “Christian Women Building Innovatively at the Workplace,” while Evangelist Bukola Adewunmi addressed “Christian Women Building Innovatively in Business.”
Pastor Clara Rufus delivered a message titled “Christian Women: Inspiration for Parenting.”
