The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, of spreading falsehood and unfounded allegations to win the confidence of voters ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Adekanmbi, through the APM Governorship Campaign Council, denied allegations by the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) that his supporters vandalised APC campaign billboards in several parts of Ibadan, the state capital.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Director of Communication and Spokesperson of the campaign council, Yinka Oladoyinbo, the APM described the allegations as baseless and insisted that neither Adekanmbi nor the party was involved in the alleged destruction of the billboards.
The organisation said the APC should not associate the APM with acts of violence or damage to its campaign materials without evidence.
“It has become a norm for the All Progressives Congress and its governorship candidate in Oyo State,  Sharafadeen Alli, to constantly spread falsehood and unfounded allegations in their bid to secure the confidence of the people of the state,” the statement said.
The campaign council described Adekanmbi as a man of peace, arguing that he had never been associated with activities aimed at destroying other people’s property.
It also urged the APC and its supporters to stop making what it called unsubstantiated allegations against the APM candidate.
The council also alleged that the APC had previously attempted to blame the APM for its internal crisis by claiming that some of its leaders were attacked by members of the movement during political engagements.
It  faulted the APC campaign organisation over its recent comments concerning diphtheria in the state, describing the claims as another attempt to mislead the public.
According to the APM, the APC’s allegations reflect a lack of concrete programmes capable of persuading voters to support the party in the 2027 election.
The campaign council expressed confidence that residents would continue to support the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, which it credited with promoting peace, development and service delivery over the past seven years.
It argued that voters would favour continuity rather than return to what it described as a period of underdevelopment.
The APM, however, called on security agencies in the state to investigate the alleged vandalism of the APC billboards and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We want to appeal to security operatives in the state to thoroughly investigate the allegation with a view to ascertaining the authenticity of the claim and also expose those behind the act,” the statement added.
The campaign council also urged its members to remain peaceful and continue their electioneering activities without fear, expressing confidence in the ability of security agencies to protect lives and property.
The statement was issued on October 14, 2026, amid an exchange of accusations between the APC and the APM over alleged attacks on campaign materials in Ibadan.
The APC campaign organisation had earlier accused supporters of Adekanmbi of vandalising billboards belonging to Alli and his running mate, Hon. Soji Adedeji, in locations including Mokola, Sango, Monatan-Olodo Road, Odo-Ona and the Toll Gate-Iwo Road section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
