The Diamond Jubilee celebration, scheduled for November 1 to 7, 2026, will feature church thanksgiving, an opening ceremony, anniversary lectures, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Day, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Day, Family and Veterans’ Day, Jumat service and a grand finale.
The celebration is themed, “Celebrating the Past, Defending the Present and Shaping the Future.”
In a statement announcing the programme, the council’s Secretary, Dayo Adu, said the activities were designed to mark six decades of journalism and the union’s contributions to the development of Oyo State and the country.
He urged members to take note of the dates and venues of the various activities as contained in the anniversary programme and participate actively in the celebration.
The council expressed optimism that members’ participation would make the Diamond Jubilee memorable and provide an opportunity to reflect on the union’s history, recognise the contributions of past leaders and chart a course for the future of journalism in the state.
